See this beautiful lady? This is Jojo, and we picked her up today.
Though I have often metioned that we were planning to get a dog, I didn’t tell many people that we had one all picked out and everything because I was afraid things would fall through somehow.
Jojo is the name she comes with, short for Jo Ann. The previous owner named her after herself. Weird, right? As if Jo Ann weren’t a weird enough name for a dog on its own. We’re going to say Jojo is short for Jolene or something.
The previous owner is an alcoholic who forgot we were coming to pick up the dog today. She missed our meeting time and place, so we had to drive out to her house. When we showed up she was totally drunk, crying, and couldn’t find Jojo’s papers or food bowls or any of the things she’d promised to give us. I felt like someone from the Department of Human Services ripping a child away from an unfit mother. Which is to say, awful. On top of that, there where enormous, aggressive mosquitos everywhere. EVERYWHERE.
But all that is over and here Jojo is, in our house, and we’re very glad she’s here. Scully, on the other hand, is not glad the dog is here. He’s not scared of her, and can be in the same room with her and completely ignore her and act totally normal, but as soon as that dog comes within four or five feet of Scully, he starts hissing and growling. We’re going to work on that. I’ve seen cat/dog introductions go much much much worse, so I’m optimistic.
