the petition to "free Polanski"
I know he’s 74 and totally beyond caring about his reputation, but you’d think Woody Allen wouldn’t touch that “Free Polanski” petition with a ten-foot pole.
Things various people must have been thinking when they signed this petition:
- “It’s ok, we’re artists, we’re above the law!”
- “It’s ok, Polanski and I are old buddies, he’s a cool guy!”
- “It’s ok, we’re European, the age of consent is lower over here!”
- “It’s ok, lots of artists I respect like David Lynch and Terry Gilliam and Wim Wenders and Milan Kundera and Pedro Almodovar signed it, so it must be alright!”
Talk about hubris.
