Anything We Want - Fiona Apple from 2012 - 03 - 18: Lincoln Hall, Chicago, IL

Fiona Apple
“Anything We Want” (Chicago, March 18, 2012)

So this! Three new songs last night. I think this one is my favorite. From the Chicago Tribune:

Apple also played three new tunes, including “Anything We Want,” which featured her clanging a bar against scrap-metal pipes to create a kitchen-sink vibe. Another unreleased song, “Every Single Night,” found her in a familiar place—at war with her mind, and enjoying the torment. Yet Apple’s older material sounded nearly as fresh. Backed by a competent quartet, she welcomed a raw urgency and rhythmic jazz sensibility not as pronounced on her records.

Oh, if you want to download the whole show, hit this link.

I didn’t know you, but I read your words every day. I assumed we’d eventually run into each other at an art show and I would have a chance to tell you how wonderful and hilarious and insightful you are, and thank you for creating beautiful work and making me think critically about the world in a new way and convincing me to finally read Audre Lorde. Love to you, love to your family, love to your friends.

Spent my morning reading the dueling Esquire and GQ articles about the exotic animal massacre in Zanesville, OH last year. Chris Heath’s GQ article has more facts (and more titillating speculation), while Chris Jones’s Esquire article is classier and better written. Instead of recommending one over the other, I’d recommend reading one then the other. Horrible, sad, totally fascinating story.
