Trying to set up appointments with a large number of very busy people is a lot of work, but I’m really enjoying the actual portrait sessions. I don’t feel comfortable at parties and in other group social situations, so it’s really exciting to have a chance to talk to my colleagues one-on-one. They are really cool people.

Pigeons in the rafters, gophers in the garden. Grad school is full of wild animals.

Wednesdays are my favorite days, I think. No work, so I can rise at my leisure. Then I go out to the studios and sit in the sun and talk with an incredible group of people. Many Wednesdays, like today, I’ll have a studio visit from a faculty member or a guest. Then I go home and eat dinner with my husband.
I am so lucky to have the life that I have. I expected to get a lot out of grad school, but I didn’t expect to like it so much.
